Overview

Spanning three countries, this self-guided ride traces the Rhine corridor from Basel to Strasbourg, bracketed by the Black Forest and the Vosges. Daily distances of roughly 34–55km follow mostly flat cycle paths and quiet agricultural roads, with short climbs in the foothills. The route moves through the vineyards of Markgräflerland—often called the Tuscany of Germany—to Freiburg, then crosses to Alsace. Colmar’s canals, cathedral quarter and Little Venice break the rhythm before the wine road leads through Grand Cru villages such as Eguisheim, Riquewihr and Ribeauvillé, with Obernai as a staging post. The finale follows the Bruche canal into Strasbourg, shaped by long Franco-German interchange. Luggage transfers and clear route notes keep the tempo unhurried, leaving space for unplanned pauses, from the fortified town of Neuf-Brisach to a timber-framed main street.
