Rides circle the Veneto shore to Lazise and Bardolino, cross by ferry to Sirmione’s peninsula, and roll through the Valpolicella and Lugana vineyards, with scope to sample local wines. Another day reaches Mantua, a city encircled by lakes and noted for UNESCO-listed Renaissance architecture, with the option to shorten the return by bus. The rhythm is unhurried, returning each evening to a converted railway-station hotel set around a seasonal pool, with sauna, Turkish bath, gardens, and a restaurant that can prepare takeaway meals.
