This tour offers, in only 4 days, a great view of some of the best routes of the area of Girona and Costa Brava. It is a medium road bike tour, to enjoy all the details of this country. Features beautiful white sand beaches, ancient archeological ruins and friendly people. Cycle through centenary vineyards and olive yards and taste the fantastic local gastronomy. The great tour of the Empordà starts in the magnificent city of Girona and offers a complete itinerary across the Empordà, one of the most beautiful landscapes of Catalonia. Cyclists will have a fantastic view of this region, inland and coast. In few kilometers, riders will see a great variety of landscapes, such as medieval villages, little coves or traditional fishing villages. It’s a challenging route for medium level cyclists, due to its gradients that include safe mountain passes between 5 and 10km. This route also takes you to Cap de Creus, the most eastern point of the Iberian Peninsula. Take your time to admire the works artistic genius Salvador Dalí with visits to Figueres, Púbol, and perhaps even the coastal charm of Cadaqués. Visit a cellar and taste the local wine of the Empordà, internationally recognised. The tour includes 7 nights accommodation in double room with B&B, luggage transfer from hotel to hotel, hotline assistance during the trip from 8 am to 8 pm, and bike delivery in our office (Girona). Features a Ride with GPS app or GPS with tracks and maps, and general information of the area. Arrival day: Once you arrive in Girona, you can head straight to your hotel to check-in. Once settled, take time to explore this charming city, rich in history and culture. Girona is renowned for its beautifully preserved Jewish Quarter, one of the finest in the world. Don’t miss the impressive Cathedral and a scenic walk along the medieval walls, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the city. Should you need transfers or any assistance upon arrival, we’re here to help. If you’d like to acclimatize or simply enjoy more time in Girona, we’d be happy to arrange extra nights for your stay. Stage 1: Loop Girona. Your tour begins with a warm-up loop ride from Girona to discover the inland countryside of the Llémana Valley with its big ancient farms. But don’t be fooled—while there are no long ascents, the route features several short, punchy climbs and keeps rolling up and down all day, making for a fun and engaging ride. You’ll head out toward Canet d’Adri, continue through Llorà and Bonmatí, and pass Mas Lluners before descending back into Girona. Stage 2: Girona – Sant Feliu de Guíxols. The route begins heading south through a flat area until you reach Llagostera. From there, the climb to... Stage 3: Stant Feliu de Guíxols - Torroella de Montgrí. Starting from Sant Pol, the route takes you through Platja d’Aro, Calonge, and Palamós—three lively seaside towns popular with tourists. From there, you’ll head toward Calella de Palafrugell, widely regarded as one of the most beautiful villages on the Costa Brava. From Calella, a short but steep climb leads to the lighthouse of Sant Sebastià (2 km with 150 m of elevation gain). After a brief descent, you’ll tackle the climb to Begur and then reach the Gulf of Pals, known for its expansive sandy beach. The ride then turns inland toward Pals, a renowned medieval village where it’s well worth taking some time to stroll through the charming narrow streets. Continuing through more picturesque medieval villages, you’ll eventually arrive in Torroella de Montgrí, watched over by its iconic mountaintop castle. Stage 4: Torroella – Castelló d’Empúries. Today’s ride is an easy one, following mostly flat roads. This stage offers a chance to recover and recharge ahead of the challenging day to come. You’ll cycle toward the beaches of Empúries and l’Escala, where we highly recommend a visit to the archaeological site featuring Greek and Roman ruins dating back to 600 BC—marking the arrival of classical civilizations to the Iberian Peninsula. The stage finishes in Castelló d’Empúries, a village that once held great regional power, as reflected in its impressive cathedral—an unexpected gem in the heart of the town. Stage 5: Castelló - Perafita - Figueres. The day begins with a 15 km warm-up ride to Roses, crossing a small wetland area that includes an ornithological reserve—perfect for spotting local birdlife. From Roses, the climb to the Coll de Perafita begins. At the top, you have the option to descend to the picturesque town of Cadaqués, famously known as the home of Salvador Dalí. Keep in mind that if you choose this detour, you’ll need to climb back up to the Coll de Perafita—adding approximately 11 km and 300 m of elevation gain. From the summit, a scenic descent takes you to Port de la Selva, where the final major climb of the day begins. This ascent leads you to the historic abbey of Sant Pere de Rodes, perched high in the hills with breathtaking views. After the descent, around 20 flat kilometers remain before reaching Figueres, where we recommend visiting the Dalí Theatre-Museum, home to a fascinating collection of the artist’s surrealist works. Stage 6: Figueres - Girona. The final stage takes you back to Girona via quiet back roads that wind through gently rolling inland terrain, passing pine forests, farmland, and a series of charming, small villages. You’ll conclude your tour with a climb to the Sanctuary of Els Àngels, one of Girona’s iconic ascents. The 5.5 km climb is rewarded at the top with sweeping panoramic views over the surrounding landscape. From the summit, it’s a 15 km descent back into the heart of Girona, where you can celebrate your ride with a well-deserved dinner at one of the city’s excellent restaurants. Departure day: After breakfast, your trip with us comes to an end. From here, you can continue your journey or head back home. If you’d like to extend your stay and enjoy a bit more of what Girona has to offer, just let us know — we’ll be happy to help.
