On this scenic cycling adventure, you pedal more than 200 miles, with a mix of freshly paved bike path, rail trails and quiet roads. From the skyscrapers of Manhattan through forests, along lakes and rivers to Albany on New York’s Empire State Trail. The tour allows cyclists to traverse the state almost entirely on dedicated hike/bike paths and routes. Surfaces for this tour: 88% Paved and 12% Gravel. The trip duration is 6 days, with an average group size of 12 people. The level of difficulty is rated as 3. Cycle up the west side of Manhattan Island on the Hudson River Greenway and see the waterfront and famous buildings. Spin along the Hudson with views of the towering cliffs known as the Palisades … into historic villages and through forests and farmland. Then leave suburbia behind as you enter rural lands and farm country. Visit the villages of Rhinebeck, Hudson and the town of New Paltz — with chances to enjoy fascinating history, unique architecture and stunning scenery. Take advantage of optional leader-led segments through the urban areas of New York City, or ride them on your own. At the finish, you can explore Albany itself, or continue your travels home by air or train from there. Or let us give you a lift back to your car at the start. Day 1: Arrival Day. Meet and transfer to Battery Park in NY City. Leader-led ride by famous landmarks like the 911 Memorial, Wall Street. Ride north on the Hudson River Greenway. Lunch at a riverfront restaurant. Route on dedicated bike lanes to trails through Van Cortland Park. Stop in Tarrytown for the evening. Group dinner. Accommodation: Sheraton Tarrytown Hotel. Biking: 31.7 miles. Elevation Gain/Loss: 852 ft ascent, 673 ft descent. Terrain: Easier. Day 2: Hawthorne to Brewster. Travel through Putnam County, past crystal clear lakes. Biking: 36.3 miles. Elevation Gain/Loss: 1,549 ft ascent, 1,254 ft descent. Terrain: Easier. Day 3: Brewster to Poughkeepsie. Primarily rural riding, passing lakes, rivers and farms on newly paved bike path. Trail-side picnic lunch. Explore southern Dutchess County, crossing the Appalachian Trail. Destination: Poughkeepsie. Accommodation: Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton Poughkeepsie. Group dinner. Biking: 41.2 miles. Elevation Gain/Loss: 949 ft ascent, 1,148 ft descent. Terrain: Easier. Day 4: Poughkeepsie to Rhinebeck. Ride across the Walkway Over the Hudson. Continue on a scenic rail trail to New Paltz. Option for an 8-mile wooded trail. Ride the Rosendale Trestle. Continue to Kingston. Lunch on your own. Shuttle to Rhinebeck. Accommodation: Beekman Arms. Dinner on your own. Biking: 34.6 miles. Elevation Gain/Loss: 966 ft ascent, 1,182 ft descent. Terrain: Easier. Day 5: Rhinebeck to Hudson. Cycle north on quiet roads with intermittent bike path sections and an unpaved section. Pass Annondale-on-Hudson, home to Bard College. Lunch in Germantown. Destination: Hudson, NY.
