Overview

Enjoy a seven-day tour along the Great Allegheny Passage (GAP) and the Chesapeake & Ohio (C&O) Canal Towpath. Pedal 335 miles from Pittsburgh, PA, to Washington D.C. — biking up to 65 miles a day on scenic, car-free, and nearly level trails. The route travels through three states on two of America’s most beloved rail-trails. Journey begins on the 150-mile GAP Trail, built on an old railroad corridor that winds through the Allegheny Mountains. Riders will roll through beautifully restored tunnels like Big Savage, cross high trestles with wide-open river views, and follow the Youghiogheny and Potomac Rivers past wooded hills and quiet towns. In Cumberland, Maryland, riders join the 185-mile C&O Canal Towpath as it meanders alongside the Potomac, passing 74 lift locks. This route is famous for a reason: it’s one of the best ways to experience America at bike speed. Riders will notice the small things, like river mist in the morning, the cool air in a tunnel, and the way each town has its own personality. Take a break in places like Ohiopyle, Connellsville, and Frostburg, then hop back on the trail when you’re ready. You ride at your own pace, and the tour company handles the details so you can relax and enjoy every mile. Day 1: Arrival Day - Meet leaders and shuttle to Homestead.
