Day by day, you'll follow one of the world's most celebrated pilgrimage routes by bike — from Porto's riverside paths along Portugal's Atlantic coast, across the Minho River into Spain, and through Galicia's stone villages and ocean hills to the unforgettable arrival in Santiago de Compostela. Ride paths lead you alongside the Douro River for about 7 miles to the seaport town of Leça da Palmeira, known for its historic lighthouse and fort. From here, continue north along Portugal's beautiful coastline, riding past sandy beaches and over boardwalks with sweeping Atlantic views. Along the way, you may choose to stop in the ancient village of Vila do Conde or the fishing town of Povoa de Varzim before arriving in Ofir. Set between dunes, pine trees, the clear waters of the Cavado River and a wide golden beach, Ofir is a peaceful place to settle in for your first evening on tour. Ride north today, crossing the Cavado River to Esposende before continuing toward Viana do Castelo, often called the jewel of Portugal's Costa Verde. After a short uphill section, you'll have time to explore the town's medieval center and find a welcoming spot for lunch. From town, look up toward Monte de Santa Luzia, crowned by its striking 20th-century neo-Byzantine church on a eucalyptus-covered hill. Then continue north on paved roads to Vila Praia de Âncora before joining the coastal Camino route toward Caminha. Tonight, stay near the Minho River estuary, where the river meets the Atlantic. Caminha is an ancient fortified border town, full of history and a lovely place to pause before crossing into Spain tomorrow. This morning, take the ferry across the Minho River and enter Galicia, one of Spain's most beautiful and distinctive regions. Your first stop is A Guarda, where you can visit Castro de Santa Trega, a remarkable hilltop Celtic settlement with sweeping views over the river, ocean and surrounding hills. From the fishing village of A Guarda, continue north with the Atlantic on your left and Galicia's green landscape unfolding around you. The ride brings you to Baiona, a seaside town known for its beautiful marina, historic streets and relaxed coastal feel. This evening, take time to explore Baiona's sights and choose a local spot for dinner on your own. After breakfast, ride toward Vigo and enjoy one of the most memorable views in the region: the Ria de Vigo, where river and seawater meet in a wide, shimmering inlet. Offshore, the Cies Islands help protect the mouth of the estuary and form part of the National Park of the Atlantic Islands. Descend into Vigo, Galicia's largest city, then continue toward Redondela, where the central Camino and coastal Camino routes come together. From there, pedal north to Pontevedra, your home for the night. This afternoon, explore Pontevedra's beautifully preserved old town, the Gothic Santa Maria la Mayor Basilica and the Ruinas de San Domingos, the atmospheric remains of a 14th-century convent. Today, you leave the coast behind and ride into inland Galicia, where the landscape shifts to rolling hills, mountain views and quiet country roads. It's a beautiful change of pace as you follow the Camino deeper toward Santiago. Your destination today is Padron, the village that gave pimientos de Padron their name. Brought from South America by monks centuries ago and grown in convent gardens, these peppers are now beloved across Spain. Take time to wander the village, visit the Iglesia de Santiago or the botanical garden, or climb to Santiaguiño do Monte, an archaeological site with roots dating back to the Iron Age. Padron is also closely tied to the story of Saint James and is traditionally believed to be where the boat carrying his body came ashore on its way to Santiago de Compostela. A short but meaningful ride through the countryside brings you to the final stage of the Way of St. James. Today, you arrive in Santiago de Compostela, one of the world's great pilgrimage destinations. For centuries, travelers have made their way here to visit the remains of Saint James. Today, the Camino continues to draw people for many reasons: spiritual, cultural, personal and physical. However you've experienced the journey, arriving in Santiago by bike is a moment to savor. This afternoon, enjoy a guided walk through the Cathedral of Santiago and the historic center. Wander cobbled streets, take in the atmosphere of the old town, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and celebrate what you've accomplished. Tonight, gather for a farewell dinner and toast the end of your Camino ride. After breakfast, your tour comes to an end. A shuttle is offered to Santiago Airport for your travels home. Taxis are easily arranged from the hotel to the airport or train station. We recommend arriving in Porto the day before. Flying out on the last day of the tour, you can depart from Santiago de Compostela after 1pm.
