Overview

This 8 day Algarve, self guided cycling tour is the most exhilarating way to journey through both the coastal and mountainous highlights of this stunning region of Portugal. With a mix of easy and more challenging cycling days, you will need some experience for this itinerary, however as it is tailor made we can adapt it to your level and interests. The coastal section of this cycling holiday is mostly on the Ecovia do Litoral, a cycling trail that follows the Algarve coast between Vila Real de San António on the Spanish border in the east to Cabo de São Vicente in the west. With Portugal, and particularly the Algarve’s famously mild climate, you can take this on any time of year really. Although if you want to pack a swimsuit in your pannier, the beaches will be chillier in winter of course! This cycling itinerary takes you through myriad landscapes, including Algarve fishing villages, the Serra de Monchique Mountains, Moorish towns and tranquil river valleys. Along the way you will get to sample fine Portuguese cuisine, local wine and of course meet some wonderful Portuguese people. You stay in some small, locally owned 3-5 star hotels and cover, on average, 55km per day using quality hire bikes with panniers. The main route of the holiday is through the Eastern Algarve area to Silves, then on to the Western Algarve mainly on quiet tarmac roads and occasionally dirt tracks. Of course, you can build in as many rest days as you like.
