This bike tour around Lake Constance (aka Bodensee) will lead through the countries of Austria, Germany, and Switzerland on the Lake Constance Cycle Route, one of Europe's best-known cycling paths. You begin to bike in Constance (Konstanz), Germany, pedal over the border into Switzerland through towns and countryside, and then to the Austrian town of Bregenz. Crossing the Rhine, you find yourself on Swiss soil once again, passing through Rorschach with its lovely lake promenade as well as Mariaberg Abbey & Wartegg Castle. Then via Arbon, the oldest settlement on Lake Constance, and Romanshorn, the route will take you back to the start. And, of course, the unique islands of Reichenau, Mainau, and Lindau are waiting to be explored. With the Alps as your backdrop, enjoy the views, the culture, and the history! This is an easy, self-guided hotel tour with an average daily distance of 13 to 35 miles (20 to 55 km). The route runs predominantly flat, with an occasional rolling hill, along good asphalt roads and bike paths. The tour is very flexible. The cycling days can be shortened or lengthened, and you can usually book an extra night in any of the towns.
