Overview

8 days, 7 nights, 5 cycling days on Terceira island in the Azores. The program visits the stunning coastline and dramatic interior of Terceira island. Cycling around the island with time to enjoy the landscape, discover bays and hidden places, visit small museums, take photos and take a bath in natural swimming pools. The cycling program begins in the historic town of Angra do Heorismo, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This is a circular tour, mainly through secondary asphalt and gravel roads, with luggage transport to the next accommodation. On the final day, there's an option for a dolphin/whale/snorkeling sea safari or a trekking tour. The tour includes airport transfers, 7 nights in 4* hotels in Angra do Heroismo and Praia da Vitória and a cozy lodging in Altrares, breakfasts, Merida Big 9 manual MTB rental, luggage transports, and bike accessories (tools, pump, extra tube, locker). Day 1: Arrival, airport transfer to Angra do Heroismo, welcome meeting, bike fitting, and exploration of Angra do Heroismo. Accommodation at 4* Terceira Mar hotel. Day 2: Circular route to Santa Bárbara (43.1 km, 995m elevation gain). Visit to the Natural Park Interpretation Center and the lava tube 'Christmas Cave' (€10 entrance fee). Exploration of the fumarolic fields of Furnas do Enxofre. Cycling back to Praia da Vitória for overnight stay. Day 3: Linear route from Angra do Heroismo to Altares (36.8 km, 711m elevation gain). Visit to Altares, the island's northernmost settlement, with its decorated 'império' and parish church. Overnight stay in a B&B in Altares. Day 4: Journey towards Praia da Vitória (38.2 km, 1249m elevation gain). Stop for a swim in natural pools in Biscoitos and a sea bath. Visit to a wine museum to try local wine. Overnight stay in Praia da Vitória for two nights. Day 5: Circular route to the viewpoint Serra do Cume (29.3 km, 1009m elevation gain). Cycling through villages, fields with cows, rich plantations, and colorful flowers, with a steady climb to the viewpoint offering panoramic views of the volcanic landscape. Return to Praia da Vitória for overnight stay. Day 6: Coastal cycling route back to Angra do Heroism (29 km, 580m elevation gain). The route passes through fields, volcanic formations, and small villages with sea views. Overnight stay at the Terceira Mar hotel. Day 7: No cycling. Option to explore Angra do Heroismo on foot, join a dolphin/whale safari, a boat trip with dolphin swimming, or a hiking tour. Note that tours may change due to weather. Day 8: Departure. Transfer from Angra do Heroismo to the airport.
