This famous 'beautiful coronation city' with its cathedral Notre Dame, one of the most major gothic art construction in Europe, Reims is particularly attractive for its numerous Art Déco districts typical of the 1920s. Option : Excursion ‘Massif de St Thierry’ (44km) & extra night in Reims: For your first cycle go and discover the Massif de St Thierry. An amazing combination of forests and vineyard surrounding 15 wine villages! Reims – Aÿ (or Epernay) | 46km. Ride round the Montagne de Reims following the prestigious tourist route of Champagne, passing by the wine villages of Rilly la Montagne, Verzenay and Bouzy. You will finish this first step with the new Véloroute of the Vallée de la Marne, along the river, before reaching the village of Aÿ. Aÿ (or Epernay) – Baulne en Brie (or Reuilly Sauvigny) | 46km. Follow the Véloroute before arriving in the village of the famous monk Dom Pérignon : Hautvillers! After a short stop, ride along the picturesque route bordered by vineyard offering breathtaking view points on the Vallée de la Marne, before reaching Baulne-en-Brie, one of the oldest villages of Champagne. Baulne en Brie (or Reuilly Sauvigny) – Vertus | 41km (or 58km). Enjoy the local heritage: the gothic style abbey church of Orbais l’Abbaye or the renaissance castle of Montmort Lucy, as well as the charming town of Vertus and its old houses. Vertus – Épernay | 27km. Cycle to ‘Côte des Blancs’ following the route of the Grand Cru villages, these slopes produce the world famous Chardonnay grapes. Discover typical vineyard villages nested between the vineyards and the lush forest: Avize, Cramant, Mesnil-sur-Oger. Take a break, relax and enjoy the ambiance in the beautiful small church of Chavot-Courcourt, lost in the vineyards, before returning to Epernay.
