Bicycles are used for scenic loops and between points. A public ferry is used across Lake Nicaragua to Isla de Ometepe, where travel is almost entirely by bike. Ometepe is a UNESCO Biosphere Preserve with minimal car traffic and efforts to keep tourism impact low. Monteverde's cloud forest reserve entry fees protect the habitat of the Resplendant Quetzal and fund preservation, research, and education.
