Overview

Cycle in one of France’s most picturesque regions fuelled by delicious local produce and accompanied by the Dordogne river on this eight day self guided tour. Start your adventure in Souillac before cycling on to Montignac, Sarlat, and Rocamadour. You’ll be exploring via quiet roads through authentic villages, and traffic free bikeways. The Lascaux caves and other prehistoric sites are scattered around this scenic limestone landscape and, of course, the scenic Dordogne River and its tributaries are never far away. This route features moderate cycling. You’ll travel distances 43 to 56km a day over six days of cycling. The most challenging day is day five, which features 900m of ascent to Rocamadour from Sarlat, but it’s worth it to stay the night in this beautiful village. A highlight in this region is the food. The Dordogne is rich with duck and geese produce, great restaurants and markets. Another highlight is the beautiful village and towns. Dordogne has the highest concentration of villages that are part of France’s official list of its ‘most beautiful’ villages. You’ll be supported by a navigation app and tourism information, with help from a local representative just a phone call away if you ever need it, and you’ll get your luggage transferred ahead of you each day. Bike hire is available for a fee; e bikes are available as an upgrade. You can reach your starting town of Souillac by direct train from Paris and Toulouse, should you want to get here by rail. This is a self guided trip that can be made at any time between April and October.
