Girona is renowned for its beautifully preserved Jewish Quarter, one of the finest in the world. Don’t miss the impressive Cathedral and a scenic walk along the medieval walls, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the city. Stage 1: Girona - Sant Feliu de Guíxols. Your tour begins with a welcome meeting at our office, where we’ll go over the routes and key details. If you’re renting bikes with us, this will be followed by a bike fitting to ensure you’re all setup for your ride. The first day takes you along the “El Carrilet” greenway, a scenic route that passes through the charming towns of Quart, Cassà de la Selva, Llagostera, and Santa Cristina d’Aro, leading you all the way to the Mediterranean Sea. Just outside Girona, the path runs alongside the Onyar River, offering one of the most iconic and photographed views in the region: the colorful houses lining the riverbank. Throughout the journey, the Gavarres Massif provides a constant natural backdrop. This forested mountain range, dominated by oak trees, plays a vital role in the area’s cork production and adds a rich, green presence to the landscape. Sant Feliu de Guíxols - Calella de Palafrugell. The second stage heads north along the Mediterranean coast, offering a beautiful mix of seaside views and cultural highlights. You’ll ride through the bustling fishing port of Palamós, renowned for its delicious red prawns. Just a few kilometers beyond Palamós, you’ll pass the unspoiled cove of Platja de Castell, a pristine beach surrounded by nature. In the final stretch, the route follows the “Ruta del Tren Petit” greenway, a former railway line that now connects Palamós with Palafrugell. Your destination for the day is the picturesque village of Calella de Palafrugell, a charming former fishing town and one of the true gems of the Costa Brava. Stage 3: Calella de Palafrugell - Torroella de Montgrí. The third stage continues northward, taking you through areas of exceptional cultural and natural interest. Along the way, you’ll pass the medieval village of Pals, renowned for its beautifully preserved historic center, as well as the charming towns of Palau-sator and Gualta, each offering a glimpse into the rural heritage of the region. Your destination is Torroella de Montgrí, a town nestled at the foot of the Montgrí Massif. Overlooking the village is the striking Montgrí Castle, perched high on the mountain and offering panoramic views. Torroella lies on the edge of the Montgrí, Medes Islands and Baix Ter Natural Park, making it a perfect gateway to explore the region’s rich biodiversity and landscapes. Stage 4: Torroella de Montgrí - Castelló d’Empúries. The route continues northward, crossing the Montgrí Massif and entering the Empordà region. You’ll ride along the sweeping Bay of Roses, known for its expansive sandy beaches and coastal charm. Along the way, be sure to visit the medieval village of Sant Martí d’Empúries and the nearby archaeological site of Empúries—home to remarkable Greek and Roman ruins that once served as a gateway for classical civilizations entering the Iberian Peninsula. The journey also takes you through the Aiguamolls de l’Empordà, a protected wetland rich in biodiversity and birdlife. Your day concludes in Castelló d’Empúries, a town steeped in history and architectural heritage, featuring a majestic Gothic church, the former count’s palace, an old market hall, and a well-preserved Jewish quarter. Stage 5: Loop Castelló d’Empúries. Today’s ride offers stunning views of the Pyrenees as you cycle through century-old vineyards that define the landscape of this part of the Empordà region. First, you’ll head toward the coast to visit the town of Roses, where you can explore La Ciutadella de Roses, a renowned archaeological site rich in history and heritage. While heading back landinward, the route takes you past some of the area’s most notable wineries, especially around the towns of Vilajuïga and Pau. Many of these wineries welcome visitors with tastings that include local wines paired with regional products. If you’d like to include a wine tasting experience in your itinerary, just let us know—we’ll be happy to arrange it for you. Stage 6: Castelló d’Empúries - Figueres. The final stage begins with a visit to Peralada, the capital of the Empordà wine region (DO – Denominación de Origen). Here, you can explore its impressive castle and charming medieval town center. From Peralada, the route continues through the upper reaches of the vineyard region, passing through the picturesque villages of Garriguella, Vilamaniscle, and Rabós—areas known for their ancient olive groves and traditional agricultural landscapes. An optional highlight of the day is a stop at the renowned La Vinyeta winery, where you can enjoy a relaxed picnic and a tasting of local wines paired with artisanal products. The ride concludes with a long, scenic descent into Figueres, your final destination. Once there, you can visit the iconic Dalí Theatre-Museum, one of Spain’s most celebrated and visited cultural landmarks. Departure day. After breakfast, your trip with us comes to an end.
