Our classic Lake Constance bike tour is the perfect way to get to know the most beautiful corners around Lake Constance in a very relaxed way with and on the bike. You start in Constance. The council city impresses with a picturesque old town, a lively harbor and an eventful history. Our Lake Constance bike tour takes you along the High Rhine to medieval Stein am Rhein, the Hori peninsula and the garden city of Überlingen. Along the Obersee, the largest part of Lake Constance, you will cycle buoyantly past Meersburg Castle, through sun-drenched wine valleys to the Zeppelin city of Friedrichshafen. Between Lindau and the festival city of Bregenz, you cross the German-Austrian border. After a few kilometers you are already in Switzerland and cycle along the southern shore of the lake through pretty little villages back to Constance. Our Lake Constance bike tour is ideal for bike tour beginners, pleasure cyclists and families. Tour Character: Level 2/3. Day 1: Individual arrival in Constance. Your Lake Constance bike tour begins in Constance, the largest city on the shores of the lake. Upon arriving at your hotel, take a leisurely stroll through the historic Niederburg district. This charming area is characterized by narrow alleyways, crooked half-timbered houses, and inviting wine taverns, offering a glimpse into the city’s rich heritage. Don't miss the opportunity to ascend the tower of Constance Priory, where you can savor breathtaking panoramic views of the city, the lake, and the Swiss landscape. At the harbor, you'll find the Imperia, a striking nine-meter-high statue that has been captivating visitors since 1993. This satirical figure serves as a poignant reminder of the Council of Constance held in the 15th century. Day 2: Constance - Gailingen / Stein am Rhein, approx. 30 - 50 km (Cat B). The first stage of your Lake Constance bike tour leads you along the picturesque Swiss shore of the lower lake and the upper Rhine, culminating in the charming town of Stein am Rhein. Renowned for its stunning medieval town center, Stein am Rhein features vibrantly painted facades that capture the essence of the area’s rich history. Continuing downstream, you’ll reach Gailingen, one of the southernmost towns in Germany. As you cycle along the German side of the Rhine, you'll head towards the scenic Höri peninsula, celebrated for its vibrant artistic community. Notably, the esteemed painter Otto Dix once resided in Hemmenhofen, where his former home has been transformed into a museum, inviting visitors to explore his life and work. Day 3: Gailingen - Ludwigshafen / Überlingen, approx. 40 - 60 km (Cat B). Today, you will cycle around the scenic Höri peninsula, making your way to the charming spa town of Radolfzell. Here, be sure to visit Radolfzell Minster, home to the tallest church tower on Lake Constance. Your journey will take you through Bodman-Ludwigshafen and Sipplingen via the Bodanrück, so prepare for some hilly stretches! Continuing along the bike path beside Lake Überlingen, you will arrive in the town of Überlingen, where the impressive St. Nikolaus Minster stands out against the skyline. Take some time to stroll along the picturesque five-kilometer lakeside promenade, where you can soak in the stunning views of the lake and enjoy the vibrant maritime atmosphere. Day 4: Ludwigshafen - Kressbronn / Lindau, approx. 50 - 60 km (Cat B). Today, your Lake Constance cycle tour will take you along the picturesque Upper Lake. Begin with a visit to the stunning pilgrimage church of Birnau, where the baroque architecture and surrounding vineyards provide a breathtaking view over the lake. Next, explore the pile-dwelling museum in Unteruhldingen, followed by a stop at the historic Meersburg Castle, Germany’s oldest inhabited castle. Continue your journey to Friedrichshafen, home to the largest collection on the history of aviation, sure to impress any enthusiast. Finally, make your way to the charming old town of Lindau, located on an island. Here, you can enjoy stunning views of the Alps from the harbor, with the iconic Bavarian Lion and the impressive 33-meter-high lighthouse framing the scene. Day 5: Kressbronn - Höchst / Rorschach, approx. 55 - 65 km (Cat B). Not far from Lindau, you’ll seamlessly cross the border into Austria. Take a moment to relax in Bregenz, where you can ride the cable car up to Pfänder, the local mountain of this vibrant festival city. From the summit, you'll be treated to breathtaking views of Lake Constance and over 200 majestic Alpine peaks. Just a short distance from Bregenz, you’ll cross the Bregenzer Ach and the Alpenrhein at Hard—welcome to Switzerland! In Rorschach, don’t miss the historic Badehütte, where you can enjoy the serene lakeside promenade. As you continue, you’ll arrive in Arbon, known for its iconic castle, which houses a museum that chronicles over 5,000 years of local history. Day 6: Höchst - Constance, approx. 40 - 65 km (Cat B). The final stage of your bike tour will lead you back to Constance along a flat and easy path. Once in Constance, take the opportunity to visit the Rosgarten Museum, included in your tour, which offers an insightful look into the city’s rich art and cultural history. If you wish to extend your cycling adventure, consider a visit to the enchanting flower island of Mainau or take a detour to Reichenau Island, renowned for its three stunning Romanesque churches. Both destinations offer a perfect way to conclude your memorable Lake Constance experience. Day 7: Individual departure or extension. Today marks the conclusion of your Lake Constance bike tour.
