On the way to Trento, you'll pass vineyards and historic ruins, including the renowned Sigmundskron Castle. In the picturesque wine villages, pause to sample local wines before reaching the bishop's city of Trento. The Mediterranean landscape accompanies your final kilometers along Italy's largest lake, with idyllic promenades and rolling hills creating an unforgettable atmosphere. Cycling holiday for beginners and families: The route from Merano to Lake Garda mainly leads along flat cycle paths, so the cycling holiday is suitable for all those who are undertaking a longer cycle tour for the first time. Children will also enjoy the route. South Tyrolean city highlights: Merano, Trento, Bolzano, Torbole - you can get very close to the beauty of South Tyrolean cities on your cycling holiday. A special highlight is a walk along the Passer River with wonderful views of the surrounding mountain landscape and a visit of the botanical gardens. Hop on the Venosta Railway toward Resia Pass and start your journey from Malles to Glurns, where the fully preserved medieval city walls await your admiration. On the way back to Merano, you’ll pass the Montani ruins and the charming town of Silandro. Along the route, castles and palaces—including Juval Castle, home to the famed mountaineer Reinhold Messner—dot the landscape or rise majestically above it. From the saddle, soak in stunning views of the mighty Ortler massif and the breathtaking Stelvio Pass. The route can be easily shortened to suit your own pace and preferences. Cycling through Lana—home to the Schnatterpeck Altar—and winding through countless orchards and vineyards along the South Tyrolean Wine Road, you’ll make your way to Eppan. Castles and palaces line the route, and just before reaching Bolzano, you’ll encounter Sigmundskron Castle, which houses the Messner Mountain Museum. Once in Bolzano, take time to explore the historic town, with its charming arcades and the famous Ötzi Museum. There are two ways to get to lake Caldaro: either the slightly hilly way on the bike path via Eppan or on the flat cycle path along the Adige dam until the charming wine village Ora. From Ora you continue on the cycle path along the Adige dam. The ‘Salurner Klause’ is the end of the German speaking part of South Tyrol. The route leads you through the famous Trentino wine regions into the ancient diocesan town Trento (lovely old part of town, cathedral, Buonconsiglio palace). Shortly after the old Tyrolian border town of Rovereto, our cycling tour leaves the Adige valley. In Mori you will taste the world famous pistachio ice-cream in the Gelateria Bologna. After the only ascent worth mentioning (approx. 150m) over the small San Giovanni pass, the path leads downhill along the lake towards Torbole. The cycle tour either ends in Riva or Torbole.
