Overview

Patagonia is the wild edge of South America, where jagged peaks and massive glaciers dominate the landscape. Known for outdoor adventure and iconic national parks, Patagonia serves as the gateway to this guided cross-border cycling journey through the Argentine–Chilean Lakes Region. Following a natural corridor, the route passes through an active volcanic area between Argentina and Chile where the Andes are still alive, marked by lava fields and steaming craters. It links gravel roads, mountain passes, lake crossings, and small towns. Off the bike, there’s time to soak in hot springs, experience local Mapuche culture, and enjoy traditional meals of grilled meat and local Malbec. Days end at carefully selected mountain lodges and boutique hotels that offer comfort, character, and a strong connection to the surrounding landscape. Cycle Argentina to Chile on a guided Andes bike tour Northern Patagonia National Parks Volcanic Andes Cycling: Lanín, Villarrica, Quetrupillán, Mocho-Choshuenco Gravel & Backroad Cycling through remote mountain terrain Natural Hot Springs & Patagonian Rivers Patagonian Food & Wine — Malbec and grilled meats This tour is suited to riders with some previous cycling experience who are comfortable spending longer days on the bike. Most days cover 25 to 50 miles, with elevation gains of roughly 1,300 to 3,300 feet, and riding time typically falls between 4 and 7 hours, depending on conditions and pace. The route includes a mix of paved roads and gravel. Gravel sections vary in quality, from smooth and well-maintained to rougher stretches typical of remote parts of Patagonia, though there is usually a good line to ride. The terrain ranges from flat valleys to rolling hills, with a few steeper climbs along the way. Near larger towns, riders may occasionally encounter more traffic. A support vehicle carries all luggage and is available throughout the day to offer assistance or a break when needed, with space for a limited number of bikes and riders. Arrival: Fly into Buenos Aires International Airport (EZE), then take a domestic connecting flight to San Carlos de Bariloche Airport (BRC). Departure: Fly from Chapelco Airport in San Martín de los Andes (CPC), connecting in Buenos Aires (AEP or EZE) before continuing to other destinations. Arrival: Upon arrival at Bariloche Airport (BRC), a scheduled transfer will take you approximately 1 hour to Villa La Angostura, where the tour begins. Departure: A transfer will be arranged from the final hotel in San Martín de los Andes to Chapelco Airport (CPC), timed to match your flight schedule. In November and December, Northern Patagonia experiences late spring and early summer conditions with mild to warm daytime temperatures, long daylight hours, and generally stable weather, though cool mornings and occasional rain showers are possible. March and April bring early to mid-autumn, with slightly cooler temperatures, fewer crowds, and crisp riding conditions, along with increased fall color in the forests. Across all months, the Andean Lake District is known for variable mountain weather, so riders should expect changing conditions and be prepared with layers and light rain protection. Travel in this region means embracing the landscape as it is. In Patagonia, many of the most rewarding routes, linking lakes, mountain passes, and remote villages, exist only on gravel roads. These surfaces provide access to places that are otherwise unreachable, and for most riders, they become a highlight rather than a challenge. With e-bikes, experienced guides, and full vehicle support, the riding remains comfortable, manageable, and deeply rewarding. Rates are calculated based on the final number of participants in the group. If additional travelers join after the initial booking, the rate will be adjusted and the price per person will decrease. If a traveler has already made a payment, any adjustment will be reflected in the remaining balance whenever possible. If the full amount has already been paid, the situation will be reviewed individually to ensure no one pays more than the final agreed rate. If participants cancel or leave the group, the rate may increase for the remaining travelers, as pricing is directly linked to group size. Adjustments depend on the timing of the cancellation and whether cancellation fees apply. All changes will be communicated clearly and transparently. It is each traveler's responsibility to ensure that they are in compliance with the country or countries they plan to visit. This includes and is not limited to passport validity, visa requirements and acquisition, blank passport pages required for your destination (s), etc. US citizens: A good website to research the requirements of the Schengen Agreement and entry into other countries is travel.state.gov. Non-EU and EU residents: Please research the requirements of your country of residence for international travel and your destination country or countries. This tour is run by ANDESTRACK EXPEDICIONES.
