Overview

The Romantic Road cycling route is one of the most popular bike tours in Bavaria, attracting both cyclists and hikers eager to traverse the very ground where history was made. The art and history of the German people will come alive as you cycle along a road that winds through forgotten sections of the countryside, connecting walled towns and picturesque villages. Arched gateways, guard towers, gothic cathedrals, half-timbered patchwork houses, and beautiful historic hotels add to the medieval character. Alpine pasturelands dotted with cattle and the blue-green waters of the many Bavarian lakes will add color and unparalleled beauty to your Bavarian fairytale. Self Guided Tour Type, Moderate Skill Level, 8 days length, starting from €1289. Standard touring rental bikes are 7-speed unisex or 21-speed. There are two types of frames available for the 21-speed bike, a men's frame or a unisex frame. Plus bike allows for a slightly sportier sitting posture, 27 gears offer the highest flexibility and a high-quality Suntour suspension fork provides the best possible comfort across all surfaces. Electric bikes have a Bosch motor and a removable battery. Accommodations for 7 nights, Breakfasts, Welcome meeting, Standard touring bike, Bike insurance, Luggage transfer, Digital travel documents incl. navigation app, GPS data, route book, 7-day service hotline. This is a moderate self-guided hotel tour. For a regular cyclist, this tour is very manageable. Routes follow bike paths and country roads with little traffic. Daily distances range from 28 to 38 miles, with the whole day to complete the mileage. In the first 3 days, some climbs have to be tackled. After Füssen, you bike along the Lech River, which is almost completely flat, to Augsburg. The roads are mostly paved, but there are some long sections on gravel paths. Your tour begins at approximately 500m elevation. You will climb to a maximum of 900m and end your tour at approximately the same elevation at which you started. Fly to Munich airport. From Munich airport, take the train to Augsburg. Ride is approximately 1 hr 30 mins. Once in Augsburg, it's just a short walk or taxi to the hotel. Bavaria is in the wet-warm-moderate climate zone. The ideal time for a cycling tour is therefore spring, summer, and autumn. Due to Austria’s location in the Alpine foothills, there is always a chance of showers in summer. Don't forget your rain gear! Available for this tour is an app that can be downloaded to your smartphone (Apple or Android). You can request the GPX tracks by email, which you can then upload to your device. The maps are available in offline mode to avoid data charges. Just ask us for a helpful PDF file with step-by-step instructions from downloading the app to uploading the GPX tracks and hotel lists. Before you travel, please check your country's passport and visa requirements and the passport and visa requirements of the country/countries you plan to visit. For US citizens, the US Department of State website is a good source of information. The Country Information tab in the International Travel section provides details about passport validity, blank passport pages required, etc. For our other international clients, please be sure that you research your own country's travel requirements. It is each traveler's responsibility to ensure proper documentation. Important note: Please check the status of the European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) as once implemented will be required to visit any of the 26 Schengen-member countries for tourism, business, medical, or transit. This is an additional check on security rather than a visa. Extra nights are generally not available within the itinerary; however, if your Day 1 is a Saturday, you may request one extra night within the tour. This tour is run by Eurobike. We value the strong relationship we have with our local partners and the services we provide. We are not a broker. We do not inflate tour prices. We are simply travelers helping travelers.
