This tour presents you the famous beauty of the "Salzkammergut", which has been the summer residence of the Austrian emperor house. The region is known as the capital of The Sound of Music and belongs to one of the most charming areas of Austria: blue lakes, imposing mountains, green meadows and forests truly create a fairy tale landscape. The pristine lakes Mondsee, Attersee, Traunsee and Wolfgangsee are the most well-known lakes in this region. This tour is a Level 2 difficulty, meaning it involves country roads, cycling paths, and field paths, with a hilly terrain and some larger uphill stretches. Use the extra time for a stroll through the picturesque old part of this cultural and fascinating town. Day 2: Salzburg – Wolfgangsee, approx. 50 km + ferry ride on Lake Wolfgang (Cat. Premium + Cat. Comfort). Bike hand over (if you have booked our bikes). You begin the tour exploring the birthplace of the world famous classical composer W.A. Mozart. Cycling along the breathtaking Drachenwand you reach the beautiful Mondsee. Enjoy the downhill to St. Gilgen and let the day end with a ship ride on the “Wolfgangsee”. Day 3: Wolfgangsee – Traunsee, approx. 40 km + ship ride St. Wolfgang-Strobl (Cat. Premium + Cat. Comfort) & ferry ride on Lake Wolfgang (Cat. Standard). After a relaxing ship ride on Lake Wolfgang you cycle to the old imperial village of Bad Ischl, where you find traces and follow the footprints of Emperor Franz Josef and his Empress Sissi all over the area. A “must-do” is a stop at the famous pastry shop “Zauner”. Along the river Traun you cycle until Traunkirchen or Altmünster. Day 4: Traunsee – Attersee, approx. 40 km. Like a fjord, Lake Traunsee is situated between Traunstein and the mountains. The ceramic town of Gmunden is awaiting you on today’s bike tour. Take your time to visit the Orth lakeside castle and the magnificent lakeside promenade before heading through the Aurachtal valley towards lake Attersee. Fans of literature have the possibility to make a detour to the Thomas Bernhard House in Ohlsdorf before reaching todays’ destination. Day 5: Attersee – Mondsee, approx. 35 km. Follow the light blue Attersee until Unterach. After 2km narrow valley you discover the legendary Mondsee. Cycle along the northern bank until you reach the picturesque city of this lake. Savour the plenty possibilities of the Salzkammerguts facilities. Day 6: Mondsee – Trumer Seenland, approx. 45 km. Riding comfortably through the land of Mondsee, passing the natural Irrsee until you reach the Trumer Seen. Fans of beer should visit the Trumer brewery! Day 7: Trumer Seenland – Salzburg, approx. 45 km. On the day before departure there is still plenty of time to enjoy several natural swimming spots. Along the enjoyable and cozy cycling enjoy nature’s beauty and pristine until Salzburg. Day 8: Salzburg - Individual departure or extend your stay in Salzburg. Our bike tour through Austria and the 7 Lakes was an unforgettable experience. It was like riding through a living postcard! Exploring the country on a bike allowed us to fully immerse ourselves in its beautiful scenery. The June weather was ideal. Each day we swam in a gorgeous new and different lake. We visited charming towns and stayed in different a hotel every night. A few of the hotels are barely 3 star and some are solid 3 star+, mostly quiet locations, mostly friendly staff and most spoke good English. Every breakfast was good and lots of it! Our luggage arrived every day except for one day, which was quickly resolved with a simple phone call, arriving a few hours later. The countryside and villages offered a diverse array of landscapes, from forests and rivers to lakes, mountains, and farmland. The terrain ranged from flat stretches to rolling hills. Even for a 70 year old, the routes were on a scale of 1 to 5 of increasing difficulty, these routes were about a 2-3 on Ebikes. Following the route worked well by downloading the file provided by the tour company. Most of the ride was along bike trails and quiet, tiny back roads with no traffic. Although there were a few instances where we rode on busier roads, the Austrian drivers were consistently patient and courteous. A truly amazing experience! - June 2024
