Overview

Self-guided cycling tour: 5 days / 4 nights / 3 cycling routes of around 200 km. Most of the cycling is done on good natural roads or asphalted side roads. Along the coast, the route is flat to hilly. This 5-day gravel bike tour – with 3 days of riding – takes you from Vila Real de Santo António to Sagres, crossing the Algarve from east to west. The perfect short escape to recharge and break away from daily life. Experience diverse landscapes, from quiet eastern lagoons and gentle hills to the dramatic cliffs at Europe’s southwestern tip. More than just cycling: a refreshing break that feels truly good. Day 1: Arrival. Welcome meeting, bike adjustment, and information for the journey. Day 2: Bike tour 1: Faro – Vila Real de Santo António (by train) – Olhão (ca. 65 km/ 447 hm). Cycle along the Guadiana River, through pine forests and citrus plantations, historic town of Cacela Velha, Ria Formosa nature reserve, Tavira, Santa Luzia, Pedras del Rei, and end in Olhao. Day 3: Bike tour 2: Olhão – Portimão (ca. 101 km/ 870 hm). Ride to Faro, Ria Formosa nature reserve, Quinta do Lago, Vale do Lobo, Quarteira, Falesia beach, Albufeira, Ribeira de Alcantarilha, Nossa Senhora da Rocha, Ferragudo, and Portimao. Day 4: Bike tour 3: Portimão – Sagres (91 km/ 1.024 hm). Visit Alvor, Meia Praia beach, Lagos, Ponta da Piedade, Praia da Luz, steppe landscape with megaliths, Cabo de Sao Vicente, and Sagres. Day 5: Departure or extension. Services included: 4 nights with breakfast in 4*, 3* hotels and typical Portuguese guesthouses.
