Discover the fascinating Via Claudia Augusta on an unforgettable cycle tour from Augsburg to the lagoon city of Venice. This tour combines spectacular landscapes, cultural highlights and Italian dolce vita. Starting in Augsburgs local recreation area, you follow the Lech river through the idyllic Lechtal heaths to the gentle hills of the Pfaffenwinkel. After a visit to Lake Forggensee and the Füssen Lech Falls, the route leads into the Tyrolean Alps, where transfers over the steepest passes make the journey easier. From Lake Reschen you cycle along the Adige cycle path through South Tyrols fruit and wine landscapes, past Lake Kaltern and on into Trentino. Along the Brenta River and through the Prosecco region, you approach Venice. Historic towns such as Merano, Trento and Treviso line your route until you finally immerse yourself in the Serenissima. The route is mostly on paved bike and agricultural roads, as well as side streets and through-roads with little traffic. There are some sections on gravel surfaces. There are about 10 km of busier roads on the route from Feltre to Quarto dAltino. Transfer over the Fernpass (Reutte - Fernsteinsee), transfer for the biggest climb up the Reschenpass (Landeck - Nauders) and from the Reschensee to Meran there are some longer downhill sections.
