A linear route that winds through vineyards and waterways, cities of art, and small villages, perfect to start exploring the Veneto region by bicycle. Starting in Vicenza, the city of the famous Renaissance architect Andrea Palladio, through Bassano del Grappa and then Treviso, you finally reach the splendor of Venice and its lagoon. The itinerary is completely in the lowlands except for the 1km slope in Asolo. You will ride on secondary streets with low traffic or paved bike paths. Cycling in mostly flat areas, with only a few short inclines and descents. Little effort is required, suitable for everyone including children. Total length: 130/150 km. Terrain: 85% tarmac, 15% unpaved. Train connection among the overnight stays: day 2, 3 and 4. A nice and cosy historical city centre characterised by the buildings of the famous architect Andrea Palladio (16th century). Day 2: Vicenza – Bassano del Grappa 40km - From Vicenza you cycle towards Marostica, famous for its castle and the chessboard in the main square. The last stop is Bassano del Grappa with its covered wooden bridge and the “grappa”. Day 3: Bassano del Grappa – Treviso 65km - You enter Asolo, which presents us the only real uphill section of our ride. The downhill run takes you to the land of Prosecco vineyards and up to Maser. Possibility to shorten the stage by 25 km by taking the train from Montebelluna to Treviso with a change in Castelfranco. Day 4: Treviso – Mestre/Venice 25/45km - Leaving Treviso behind you, follow the course of the River Sile up to Casale. At the end of the trip Venice awaits you for an evening among canals and narrow streets. Accommodation in Mestre Day 5: A supplement applies for lodging in Venice. Note in Venice (apart from Piazzale Roma and train station Santa Lucia) it is forbidden to cycle, and also to push your bike by hand. Day 6: Mestre/Venice - Departure after breakfast. Due to organisational reasons, weather conditions or provisions issued by local authorities, the itinerary may be subject to some changes before and/or during the holiday. Along the way you may find temporary deviations (for example road works) which cannot be foreseen In this case each rider can decide autonomously how to deal with these stretches.
