Self-guided Western Crete Cycling Tour in Greece. The tour combines history, culture, mountains, beaches, lakes, good food, lots of raki and Cretan music. It starts in Heraklion and follows the coast through Agios Nikolaos, Ierapetra, Tsoutsouros, and finally Rethymno. It includes visits to important archaeological sites like Knossos and Phaestos, and offers opportunities to relax by the beach, taste local food, and immerse in Cretan hospitality. This tour is of moderate difficulty (Level 3), suitable for recreational cyclists with a standard/good level of fitness. Daily distances are around 50km, with daily total climbs averaging no more than 600m, except for one day with 860m. Day 6: Cycling from Inachoria to Kissamos (40Km | +675m or 49Km | +943m) along the west coast. Day 7 is a free day in Kissamos with options for boat trips to Balos or Agria Gramvousa, or cycling to Falasarna beach. Day 8: Cycling from Kissamos to Chania along the northern coast, with optional winery visit or cave exploration. Day 9: A cycle tour of the Chania Peninsula, visiting scenery, beaches, and monasteries. Day 10: Cycling from Chania to Georgioupoli (44Km | +780m), with a recommended visit to ancient Aptera. Day 11 offers options for wine tasting at Dourakis winery or cycling to villages in the eastern Chania Region, or relaxing in Georgioupoli. Day 12: Cycling from Kournas Lake to Rethymno (38Km | +516m), visiting Kournas Lake and the historic city of Rethymno. Day 13 is a free day in Rethymno with options to visit ancient Eleftherna and the Arkadiou monastery. Day 14 is departure.
