Its fertile red soil contrasts sharply with the deep green of the carob trees and the pale almond blossom which lights up the area each spring. Hundreds of small farmsteads, dotted about the plain, are connected by a network of tracks and lanes. These are perfect for two-wheeled meanderings, as you make your way gradually towards the dramatic headlands and quiet coves of the north-east coast of the island.
