Two different options to cycle around Girona: option 1 (Rocacorba, 59km) or option 2 (Les Gavarres, 51km). Funny single tracks combined with easy unpaved roads connecting the hills. Discover the Empordà, the land of the genius surrealist painter Dalí. Great diversity of scenery spots: forests, rice fields, fruit trees combined with an extraordinary rough coast and fantastic Mediterranean beaches. The Empordà is a great area to practice your mountain biking skills. Its large plain surrounded by mountains offer a huge variety of fantastic paths and tracks. You will discover the unknown Empordà. This route includes the best paths and tracks of the area, discovering the most hidden spots and avoiding the touristic areas. Get transported to other times, visiting ancient medieval villages, like Monells, Pals, Torroella and Castelló d’Empúries, or the Greek and Roman ruins of Empordà. Visit the small marmalade Museum in Torrent, which will explain the interesting process of making this local delicatesse. Relax on some of the best beaches of the Costa Brava. Enjoy the Mediterranean gastronomy and the reputed Empordà local wine. Once you arrive in Girona, you can head straight to your hotel to check-in. Once settled, take time to explore this charming city, rich in history and culture. Girona is renowned for its beautifully preserved Jewish Quarter, one of the finest in the world. Don’t miss the impressive Cathedral and a scenic walk along the medieval walls, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the city. Your tour begins with a welcome meeting at our office, where we’ll go over the routes and key details. If you’re renting bikes with us, this will be followed by a bike fitting to ensure you’re all setup for your ride. Today’s ride takes you to the western side of Girona, an area known for its flowing singletrack and picturesque landscapes. The route winds through the Adri Valley, where lush greenery, rolling hills, and tranquil streams create a scenic backdrop. One of the highlights is the dormant volcano of Adri, offering a unique glimpse of ancient geology and striking rock formations. As the ride continues, you’ll traverse a mix of forest trails, open fields, and technical sections that keep things engaging. After soaking in the views from the volcanic cone, enjoy a fast, exhilarating descent back to Girona—perfect for opening up the brakes and finishing the ride on a high note. Start your journey from the centre of Girona, heading south toward quieter, more natural surroundings. The ride begins on the Greenway—a smooth, scenic path where the hum of the city fades into the sounds of nature. After around 5 km, you leave the Greenway behind and start climbing into the Gavarres mountain range. This section introduces rolling hills and a mix of non-paved roads and flowing singletrack, offering a varied and engaging ride. As you traverse the Gavarres, you’ll pass through dense forests of cork oak—an iconic part of the region’s landscape and economy. The terrain is a mix of steady climbs, forest trails, and technical sections that reward both skill and stamina. After navigating the Gavarres, the route reconnects with the Greenway for a smooth finish. The day concludes at the beac of Sant Pol, where your hotel awaits just steps from the sea. The calm, clear waters of this tranquil beach offer the perfect place to relax, recover, and take a well-earned swim after a rewarding ride. The day begins with some climbs back into the Gavarres. While this stage is shorter, the ascent demands effort—but it’s well worth it. From the top, you’re rewarded with panoramic views over the coastline and the Mediterranean Sea. After soaking in the vistas, the ride descends toward Cala Castell—a beautifully preserved cove on the southern edge of the Costa Brava. With its turquoise waters and quiet surroundings, it’s an ideal spot to pause for a picnic or take a refreshing swim. The final stretch includes one last climb before reaching Calella. Along the way, you’ll pass a curious landmark: a small hut featuring a door inspired by Salvador Dalí’s surrealist style—a whimsical reminder of the region’s artistic roots. The ride ends in the charming fishing village of Calella, where traditional seafront houses and a relaxed coastal vibe provide the perfect setting to unwind after a rewarding day on the bike. Starting in Calella, the route begins with a climb toward the hilltop town of Begur. The standout feature here is its medieval castle, offering panoramic views that set the tone for the day. From the summit, take in sweeping vistas across the Empordà plain—an expansive patchwork of fertile farmland set against the backdrop of the Mediterranean. The ride continues through a unique coastal dune ecosystem, shaded by Mediterranean pine forest, offering a welcome contrast of terrain and vegetation. Next, the route leads to the beautifully preserved medieval village of Pals. With its cobbled streets and stone buildings, Pals is a place worth slowing down for—a step back in time that rewards exploration. The day’s final stretch takes you across the Ter River and into Torroella de Montgrí, a town dominated by the striking silhouette of Montgrí Castle perched on a rounded hill. The castle and the surrounding scenery make for a memorable finish to the ride. Starting in Torroella, the ride kicks off with a climb into the Montgrí Massif—a compact mountain range featuring adventurous, occasionally technical trails. The ascent is both challenging and rewarding, with rocky terrain and sweeping coastal views to inspire every pedal stroke. After cresting the massif, you descend toward the coast and reach L’Escala, home to the impressive Greek and Roman ruins of Empúries. Set right on the seafront, this archaeological site offers a compelling blend of ancient history and coastal beauty—an ideal stop to rest and take in the surroundings. From the shoreline, the route turns inland through one of the region’s key agricultural zones, where expansive apple orchards line the landscape. This peaceful stretch provides a scenic contrast to the morning’s climbs, with gentle terrain and open countryside. Continuing past Peralada—renowned as the heart of the Empordà wine region—you head toward Figueres. The day concludes in the hometown of Salvador Dalí, where the Dalí Theatre-Museum offers a surreal and unforgettable finish to the journey, showcasing the visionary work of the region’s most iconic artist. Departing from Figueres, the route leads you through a mix of wooded areas and agricultural landscapes—a smooth transition from urban surroundings into the rural heart of the region. Along the way, you’ll pass through small villages, offering glimpses of local life and traditional architecture. Crossing the Ter River marks a shift in the scenery. Following its course, you’ll ride through gentle terrain until you reach Flaçà—a key point in the journey. From here, you have the option to take a train directly to Girona for a more relaxed end to the day. If you choose to continue by bike, the route leads into the Gavarres once more, with a rewarding climb to the summit of Els Àngels. From this scenic viewpoint, take in sweeping views of Girona and the surrounding countryside. The final descent brings you back into the heart of Girona, where a well-deserved rest awaits—perhaps on one of the city’s many terraces, with great food and a celebratory drink to mark the end of your adventure. After breakfast, your trip with us comes to an end. From here, you can continue your journey or head back home.
